"Same employer pa rin po ako, kailangan ko pa bang magpaverify ng contract?" I'm still with the same employer, so do I still need to get my contract verified? It's one of the most common questions before a trip home. The answer depends on what's changed since your last OEC.
The short answer
The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Singapore verifies employment contracts for returning workers (Balik-Manggagawa) only in these four cases:
- You've never been registered with the DMW, for example because you were hired directly while already in Singapore.
- You've changed employers while abroad.
- You've changed job sites across countries.
- You've changed positions, such as through a promotion or a new role.
If none of those apply, you don't need contract verification. MWO Singapore says plainly that it isn't required for every contract renewal.
Same employer, same job: get an OEC exemption
If you're going back to the same employer, in the same position, and your DMW record already has your current employment details, you can usually request an OEC exemption online instead of a new OEC.
- Log in to your DMW online account.
- Check that your passport and work pass details are up to date. Update them first if you have a new passport or a new work pass.
- Go to Balik-Manggagawa and answer the questions about your employer, job site and position.
- If everything matches your record, the system offers the exemption, which you can print or save.
Bring your current documents to the airport anyway. If your fixed-term contract has expired and you've signed a renewal with the same employer, keep the new contract together with your previously verified contract in case immigration asks for them. If your contract has no end date, your work permit or ID showing the same employment details as your OEC is enough.
Changed employer, job or position: get your contract verified
If you've changed employers, been promoted or changed jobs, your old verified contract no longer matches your work. You'll need MWO Singapore to verify the new contract before an OEC is issued.
What to prepare:
- your new employment contract, signed and showing full terms
- your passport
- your work pass
- recent payslips or other proof of employment
MWO Singapore handles verification through its online support site, which lists the current requirements and how to book.
A quick way to check
Ask yourself: "Does my DMW record still describe my job exactly?" If your employer, job site and position all match, you probably only need the exemption. If anything has changed, plan for verification, and leave time before your flight.
Requirements can change. Check MWO Singapore's advisories before you book a flight home.
