Long airport waits are part of OFW life: a provincial bus that arrives too early, a delayed flight, a connection hours away. At NAIA, departing OFWs don't have to spend that time on a hard bench. There are free, dedicated lounges, and Terminal 3's has places to sleep.
What's inside
The OFW Lounge at Terminal 3 is run by OWWA, under the Department of Migrant Workers. It holds up to 216 people and has:
- Free meals, snacks and drinks
- Wi-Fi and plenty of charging stations
- Sleeping areas, showers and massage chairs
- Rooms for OFWs whose flights are delayed or missed, so you can rest properly while you wait for your rebooked flight
There's also an OFW Lounge at Terminal 1, which holds 140 people. In June 2026 OWWA opened another at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which holds up to 80 people. Terminal 2 has no OFW lounge, so check your terminal before you leave home.
The six-hour rule
You can stay in the lounge for up to six hours. OWWA brought in the limit in 2026 after some travellers arrived 12 to 48 hours before their flights, which left the lounge full for others who needed it.
In practice, aim to reach the airport so your time in the lounge falls within those six hours. If you're travelling from the province and have to arrive much earlier, plan where you'll spend the extra time.
What to bring
The lounge is for departing OFWs, so have your passport and your Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) or OFW e-card ready to show at the door. Some guides also suggest keeping your boarding pass handy.
A money-saving tip, too
Airport food adds up quickly, especially for a family seeing you off. A free meal, a shower and a proper rest before a long flight are worth planning around. Arrive within the six-hour window, eat in the lounge, and keep your cash for where you're going.
If your trip is home for good, not back to work
The lounge is for departing workers. If you're coming home because your job ended suddenly, for example because of conflict in your host country, you may qualify for livelihood assistance from OWWA of up to ₱20,000 if your membership is active. See our guide to the new reintegration law and the support you can already use.
Facilities and rules can change. Check OWWA's official pages before you travel.
